Ken

The founder and director of the Kenyatta Funksters

is Mr. Abe Thompson aka Nbugu Kenyatta. He is a

native of New Orleans where he grew up listening to

and playing a rich tradition of Jazz and Blues.

Abe Thompson is affectionately known as Ken by

Taiwanese audiences. He has a degree in Music

Education and he spent much of his young adulthood teaching in his native

New Orleans during the day. Then at night and on weekends he gained

priceless experience teaming up with a host of jazz great from the New

Orleans club scene.

In Taiwan Ken and his friends have been delighting the crowds around

Taipei for over fifteen years. The Kenyatta Funksters play an eclectic

variety of music ranging from jazz, reggae, blues, funk and rock classics.

The Kenyatta Funksters consists of:

Kenyatta : Drums and lead vocals

Ray : Guitar and lead vocals

Sannio : Bass and backup vocals

Hugo Bandi: Rythm guitars and backup vocals

As a studio musician Mr. Kenyatta has collaborated with many great

artist. He also has a couple of CDs of his own.

"Peace and Love" was Mr. Ken's first CD. It was followed later by the

nostalgic "New Orleans East Meets the Far East." Yet a third CD is on

the way and it should be released this August, just in time for the band's

performance at Hsinchu Music Festival on August 24.
