Ray Anthony

The Kenyatta Funksters are proud to feature Ray Anthony on guitars. He comes to us directly from Singapore, where he has
long been considered "The Singaporean Jimmy Hendrix."
He gravitated towards music from a very early age and he taught himself to play the guitar, mostly blues and rock.
Early in his career, way back in 1967 - 1969, he traveled to England, where he played the guitar for a blues band and and soul band. By 1970 Ray was back in his native Singapore and
he founded the rock band Fried Ice. A few years later he formed yet another band. This time he chose the name "Heritage."
In 1977 Ray turned pro with a Singapore band called "The Grade." With Ray as lead guitarrist, "The Grade" became a fan favorite in Singapore's night club scene with crowd-pleasing renditions of disco, pop, and rock. The club scene in Singapore was not able to contain Ray's talents. Soon the band was on the road, hitting the big stage in Bangkok, Hamburg and Amsterdam, as far as the East is from the West.

From 1980 to 1985 Ray joined the Singaporean band "The Jacks." It was with this group that Ray first came to Taiwan for an engagement at the Regency in Taipei, among other venues.
Later on "The Jacks" disbanded, but Ray continued developing and polishing his talent while not yet quitting his day job.

Now we are happy that Ray has found a home in Taiwan and he has decided to settle here and be a part of the Kenyatta Funksters.

You may catch the Kenyatta Funksters and Ray on guitar

(2) every Friday from10:30 - 12:30 pm at Seven Music Club.

Ken
